She started playing guitar at the age of 6 with blues/rock guitar lessons, her first inspirations were Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Buddy Guy.
She started studying Jazz at the age of 14 and learned the language and improvisation by listening to Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall and Pat Metheny.
The discovery of the composer Charles Mingus at the age of 16 was a musical and artistic shock that pushed her to take an interest in arrangement and composition.
At the same time, she listens to diverse and varied music ranging from Brazilian composers (Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Elis Regina) to alternative rock (The Kills, St Vincent, Moodoïd) and French chanson (Rita Mitsouko) which also inspired her in her musical identity.
At the age of 19, she met and studied with Romain Pilon before going to study at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam from September 2020 to June 2022 where she studied with Jesse Van Ruller, Tineke Postma, Taali and José James, among others. Since September 2021, she has formed her group with international musicians from the Amsterdam Conservatory; Tijs Klaassen (double bass/Netherlands), Federica Lorusso (piano/Italy), Lucas Santana (flute/Brazil), Chen Har Even (drums/Israel), and Meeliann Kosk (Estonia/Vocals).
Her work gained recognition in 2024, when she was selected for WIZZ – Women in Jazz, a program by Anne Paceo, Les Gémeaux, and Jazz sous les Pommiers Festival, which included concerts in France. In 2025 she was one of the winners of the Made in New York Jazz Competition, performing at Neidorff-Karpati Hall with Randy Brecker.
Emma’s first album “Une Question d’Enfant” was released on July 2025.
